    1. Why was the name Pilgrim Rest chosen? The name Pilgrim Rest was recommend by the late Mother Millie Parker, a member of the congregation. Each Christian is a pilgrim or traveler who receives the blessing of being able to rest in Jesus the Christ upon being eternally redeemed (Matthew 11:28-29, Hebrews 4:9-11, Revelation 14:13).

    2. Why is Pilgrim Rest affiliated with a denominational convention?  We believe that God hates division between His redeemed people. Yet, false teachers have spread false doctrines that have caused such justified division (Romans 16:17, 2 Corinthians 6:17). Consequently, Pilgrim Rest has chosen to affiliate with other redeemed saints who are pure truth seekers in Jesus. Such people rightly divide or correctly handle God’s holy written word, the 66 books called the Holy Scriptures. Proper DOCTRINE matters to Pilgrim Rest (Romans 16:17, Second Timothy 2:15, 3:16-17, Hebrews 13:9).

    3. What is the Pilgrim Rest view of the Creator’s Holy Scriptures?   We believe that the 66 books of the Holy Bible are inspired by our Creator. We believe that this Holy Bible needs no companion study guide. We believe that it offers God’s descriptive and prescriptive messages for His people until Jesus returns to judge the quick and the dead. The Statement of Faith adopted by Pilgrim Rest can be found on our website.

    4. How do the members of Pilgrim Rest view their roles?  Each member has been redeemed and called by the Creator to be Christ’s slave (Galatians 1:10) and disciple (John 8:31). No member needs a certificate or license to serve Jesus. All true Christians are equal spiritually (Galatians 3:28), yet the Holy Ghost chooses to give each Christian specific spiritual gifts to properly function within specific roles as He wills (First Corinthians 11:1-3; 12; Ephesians 5:22-33, First Timothy chapter 2 & 3, Titus 2:1-8, First Peter 3:7).

    5. Why doesn’t Pilgrim Rest have a school for training Christians?  We do! Sunday school, Christian Training Union (CTU), Pure Truth Seeker (PTS) Sessions, and weekly preaching and teaching. Also, we encourage members to attend Moody Bible Institute, Chicago Baptist Institute, or Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (Pastor Lloyd’s alma mater).

    6. Why does Pilgrim Rest ordain men only as church leaders?   We associate ordination in the church of Christ with what the Holy Ghost teaches concerning spiritual headship. According to 1st Corinthians 11:1-3 and1st Timothy chapters 2 and 3, the Holy Spirit explicitly teaches that the head of the woman is the man and the head of the man is Christ and the head of Christ is God (the heavenly Father). We believe that holy women can teach and lead in Christ as long as they do not usurp or presume headship over the holy man. In other words, contemporary trends where women rule over men are not relevant within the true body of Christ unless God is bringing shame upon His body (1 Corinthians 11:5-6).

    7. What do I have to do to become a member of Pilgrim Rest?

    • Locate and secure a copy of the Church Membership Form (located in lobby areas of main auditorium);
    • complete and submit the information request form to an usher, membership orientation team member or volunteer church secretary;
    • attend meeting with membership orientation team member to complete formal orientation;
    • membership orientation team member will recommend candidate to be received as church member by a) baptism, b) letter, c) Christian experience, or d) restoration;
    • pastor and church will officially vote candidate into membership and fellowship with Pilgrim Rest; and
    • members will be assigned ministry teams to serve Jesus with.

    8. What is the attitude of Pilgrim Rest in regard to speaking in tongues (foreign languages)? Pilgrim Rest takes the same attitude that the apostle Paul had according to what the Holy Ghost guided him to write as 1st Corinthians chapters 12 through 14. Paul did not forbid any saint to speak in a foreign languages during congregational worship times as long as they did it one by one with proper interpretations following. Sadly, in most situations, this is not bei)ng practiced as 1 Corinthians 12 through 14 commands. Also, spirits that guide people to speak in tongues must be spiritually discerned and tested according to 1 John 4:1-3. People must not be insulted when this is done!

    9. Why does Pilgrim Rest operate through a BRANCH System?  If you read passages of Holy Scripture such as Exodus 18:13-27, Matthew 28:19-20, John 15:1-5, Acts 1:1-8, and Acts 6:1-7; you will notice that the Creator desires that His church members serve Christ like branches serve a tree or vine. Jesus commissioned His disciples to be His missionary evangelists, who would each god exactly where Jesus sent them. Branches produce leaves and fruit. The branches that cease to produce as God will are cut off and cast into fire to burn. The BRANCH system therefore, serves to remind each member of Pilgrim Rest that God never assigned him or her to be a spectating pew member. The BRANCHES are designed so that each church member has a team of deacons and deaconesses assigned to serve him or her as ministry advisors and liaisons between the pastor and BRANCH members. This only works when the deacons/deaconesses and BRANCH members work together in Christ.

    10. How is Pilgrim Rest financed?   Pilgrim Rest depends on the members of Pilgrim Rest to follow the guidance of the Holy Ghost who tells them how to provide financial support to keep Pilgrim Rest functioning as God wills. A careful reading of 1 Corinthians 16:1-3, 2 Corinthians chapter 9 and Galatians 6:7-8 proves that God expects His church members to give the money needed to properly build and maintain Christian ministries. Even Jesus the Christ had a treasurer and certain rich women who provided financial support to his earthly ministry (Luke 8:3, John 12:6, 13:29). And Mark 12:41-44 reveals that Jesus did watch to see who gave what and how much they gave to God’s work. As long as each church member gives as God wills, Pilgrim Rest will continue to give God quality service in Christ.
